The sun is at its highest point in the sky. The days are long and our energy is rising to the occasion to make the most out of the abundant sunlight. Six months after the winter solstice, the opposite energetic tendencies are at play. Winter was about turning inward and preserving our chi. Now, in summer, we get to take advantage of the reserves created in the dark and quiet season.

Summer is about expansion. The energy in nature and in ourselves is as upward and outward as it will get over the course of the year. Fruit on trees is approaching maturation as crops thicken for the upcoming harvest. Taking our cues from nature, it is also a time for us to expand and put forth the ideas and dreams we had in those cold, still months.

Take time to follow-up on plans concocted in spring. Allow them to be ignited, to come alive. Because one of the corresponding organs of summer is the Heart, it is a great time to network and connect with people. Use your energy, not just for play, but to set alight your passion and life purpose.

Fire is the element corresponding to summer. The emotion is joy, the sound is laughter, the odor is scorched, the color is red and the taste is bitter. It is the time to be outdoors and be active, soaking up the powerful energy of the light and warmth.

Summer is for socialize and laughing – leave yourself plenty of time for both. However, when a fire burns out of control, it leads to devastation. Burning the candle at both ends at any time of year can eventually lead to ‘burn out’. Balance is key to maintaining a healthy flow of energy.

Stay tuned for upcoming blogs on summer and the fire element. In the meantime ~ ENJOY!
